Not such a close game at walking football this week, but a new record was set as one of the superstars of the group, Tim Richens, completed the first ever treble!

During the evening he not only scored a goal, but he got an assist and also went in goal and kept a clean sheet, to complete the holy grail!

The evening started with a new face, Paul Brice, living up to his promise to turn up one day, and turn up he did, with some immediate impact!

In the first minute his long-range shot, flew past Keith Hooper, in the goal for the Oranges team, to give his team a one nil lead - the high spot of the evening for the Yellow team!

It was soon 1-1 as Richens got on the scoresheet; receiving a through ball from Bruce Bayliss, the slimline striker fired a shot on target that top keeper, Colin Batt, saved superbly, but the ball rebounded to Richens who smashed home an unstoppable shot!

Soon afterwards the roles were reversed as Richens set up England triallist, Bruce Bayliss, to slot coolly past Batt, to put the Oranges into a lead.

It seemed certain that the Yellows would equalise but the best display of keeping ever seen at walking football by Keith Hooper, diving about like a man half his age, saw the lead retained by the Oranges.

To make matters worse for Jock’s Yellows, Clive Vaughan added a crucial third against the run of play.

There were no more goals by the break, despite some superb attacking play from both sides!

The second half saw Richens go into one goal and Rodgers go into the other and both keepers did brilliantly, with just one goal being added, Hooper coming out of the nets, to score his customary goal and make the win secure for the Oranges!

Throughout the second half the teams both played exciting open football, but some great defending, with Sheldon, Hiscox and Bayliss rolling back the years for the Oranges, to deny some great attacking Yellows football, Burgess being the usual threat throughout, being rewarded!

As well as the attacking threat from Burgess, Ben Chick and Tim Youngberg were skilful and fast throughout, keeping Clive Vaughan and Paul Chick, occupied on behalf of their team throughout.

So, bragging rights to young Pople (Rich) over his dad, Dave, who he wouldn’t select for his team, much to the other players’ amusement.

But, result aside, another evening enjoyed by all who attended!
