It was, once again, a question of quality rather than quantity as Cheddar Ladies walking football club held their regular Tuesday evening session.

After a very successful, and enjoyable, coaching session the ten ladies that played, settled down into their two teams and provided a great display of walking football.

Both teams were “going at it” and eventually the first goal of the evening came as the goal poacher supreme, aka Sarah Williams, find herself unmarked and slotted home from close range.

Soon afterward the scores were equal as the enthusiastic, but somewhat lacking in self-confidence, Cheryl Ward, showing why she should not lack confidence, as she equalised with a great goal herself.

All over the pitch the standard of football was extremely good with strong attacking being countered by some superb defending with Nikki Llewellyn and Gerry Averley looking extremely strong defensively for the white team, but they were matched by Julie Rogers and Lisa Machin for the red team who also looked strong throughout.

The second half mirrored the first half with great attacking football on display and some superb movement, and technique, and the ladies were showing that they had clearly learned a lot from the coaching that they have been getting, with Jane White and Chelsea Llewellyn very prominent for the white team, but once again were matched by the “pocket rockets” for the Reds, also known as Gill Sage and Jane Morgan.

With not long to go the white team took the lead as Chelsea Llewellyn scored a great goal, but they could not hold this lead for long as once again, Cheryl Ward also scored, her second of the evening!

Despite much great attacking there were no further goals and at the end of a hard fought, hard-working, 50 minute game, the score finished at Reds 2 Whites 2.

Another great session was had by all players concerned and the only disappointment was that several regulars were unable to attend, for valid reasons.

But if you fancy a look at this game, and even joining in, please feel free to turn up every Tuesday evening at Kings Leisure Centre, where you will be made really welcome by the ladies of Cheddar Walking Football Club, with sessions being free to newcomers (courtesy of the sponsorship provided by DJB taxis of Cheddar), allowing the team to get on and just play football.  If not sure of what to do please visit the official club website or contact Tim Richens at tim.richens@icloud.com
