LADIES MATCH REPORT - 22/6/21

It was definitely a case of quality rather than quantity at Cheddar ladies football club this week one, due to England playing football but evening, only eight ladies were able to attend the session, so they were joined as goalkeepers by Tim Richens and Rob Sheldon, in a great game of football of extremely high quality.

The teams were set up with Tim's team having new girl Vicki Lough, Chelsea Llewellyn, Jill Bassett and Julie Dwyer

The opposition was provided by Rob Sheldon in goal, Nikki Llewellyn, Sarah Williams, Cheryl Ward, and Lisa Machin.

Early on the game was full of high quality football, with Lisa Machin once again showing huge quality (despite her poorly leg) for her team, and she seemed involved in a very good , even and fair battle with the red team’s own excellent player, Chelsea Llewellyn.

But, although the yellows did progress quite often, they find the new girl Vicki Lough to be pretty much unbeatable in defence, as well as being a great footballer when she had the ball.

However, despite a valiant efforts of the new girl it was the yellow team who took the lead when, following a shot that was saved from Cheryl Ward, the ball came back to Lisa Machin who an fired an unstoppable shot into the bottom corner giving the younger of the keepers, Tim Richens, no chance!

However it was not too long before the Reds team equalised when a shot from Chelsea Llewellyn flew past the helpless Rob Sheldon to make the score 1-1.

The game went on for several more minutes, until three of the players had to leave, and in that time no further goals were scored although many great chances created, with both teams playing superb football throughout.

After the three ladies left it was left to play a 3 versus 2 game, in order to work on how to take advantage of having an extra player, as well as how to defend when you have a player less than your opponents, to which all players adapted brilliantly!

Even this session showed some fantastic quality with the passing by the whole group being of a very high standard.

Once again it was a thoroughly enjoyable evening for everybody involved, and as always show the progression that the players are making, both as individuals and as a team!
